Congresswoman Sheri Biggs visited Edgefield on July 6, 2026, for a meet-and-greet with veterans and their spouses from South Carolina's 3rd Congressional District, hosted by American Legion Post 30. She presented her congressional challenge coin to every veteran and spouse in attendance and accepted a Post 30 challenge coin in return. Throughout the nearly two-hour event, veterans had an opportunity to share concerns, personal experiences, and suggestions directly with their representative in Congress, who repeatedly emphasized that those conversations help shape both her constituent services and the way she evaluates legislation.

Before opening the floor, Biggs briefly discussed two veterans’ initiatives. She is a co-sponsor of the Veterans ACCESS Act, legislation intended to expand veterans' timely access to community medical care, and sponsor of the Improving Travel for Military Members Act, which would establish a pilot program allowing eligible active-duty service members and their families to use expedited TSA airport screening. Biggs described her interest in veterans' health care as rooted in her background in nursing, family practice, mental health, active service in the Air National Guard, and leadership of Mississippi state veterans' homes. She added that veterans' care should address not only physical and mental health, but also spiritual well-being.

Most of the meeting was devoted to questions and comments from veterans. Topics included proposed changes to veterans' disability benefits, access to specialty and community medical care, travel reimbursement, burn pit-related treatment, TRICARE availability, and concerns over staffing, responsiveness, and overall quality of care within the VA system. Several attendees also raised broader issues involving military readiness and national security.

Throughout the discussion, Biggs and her staff listened attentively, took notes, distributed contact information, and encouraged veterans to submit details of unresolved cases so the office could pursue them through the appropriate federal agencies. Biggs, together with Outreach Director Susan Thomason, whom she described as her "boots on the ground," and Veterans Service Representative Teresa Mahaffey, frequently offered to research specific issues, coordinate with legislative staff in Washington, and follow up on individual cases brought forward by veterans and their spouses. Biggs repeatedly emphasized that the concerns shared during the meeting would help shape her legislative priorities and constituent services, stating, "Everything that you've said here today, we're going to take back to my team... How does it impact the Third District? And that's the bottom line."

Following the discussion, Biggs remained to visit individually with attendees and pose for photographs before departing for an unscheduled visit to the home of Edgefield veteran Billy Prince to wish him a happy 100th birthday.
