Flag Folding and Fun at Wardlaw Academy

American Legion Post 30 Edgefield members Jane Doolittle and Dr. Bruce Mears dropped in on Mrs. Henderson’s 5th grade class at Wardlaw Academy on Monday August 4, 2025, to talk about the flag. They shared the rich traditions of flag etiquette, including the proper way to raise and lower the flag on the school flagpole, how the flag is displayed during time of mourning or crisis, the significance of the colors and stars, and how to fold it into a perfect triangle. Students were curious and engaged by Dr. Mears’ real-life Vietnam war stories and then divided into groups to practice the intricate flag folding tradition. The flag etiquette class is one of Post 30’s many volunteer community service programs and is available to all Edgefield County classrooms. Contact alpost30sc@gmail.com to participate.
